Two pew cushions were required, each near to three metres long. The foam pads were of 5cm thick luxury foam with polyester wadding and stockinette wrap.

The chosen fabric was patterned but had no particular direction, allowing the covers to be made from one piece cut along the length of the fabric, wide enough and long enough to wrap the pad.

A length of zip, a few inches longer than the cover, was added to one long side and then the other forming a very long tube.
At one end, spare zip was cut off and the side sewn together.
The tube was then folded flat with the zip running along one edge and the corners pulled out. Lines of stitching, 5cm long, were added to box the end and the corners cut off.

The cover was laid down, marked and cut off – this allows for any dimensional changes resulting from adding the 3m zip.
This second end was then treated in the same way as the first.
The zips were pulled apart and the pads inserted in both covers to complete the project.
