Two cushions were wanted, shaped to fit a seat with curving back.
The seat cushion pad was simply cut to shape following a template of the seat base. The back pad though had to be carved from a much larger block of foam – cutting a crescent shaped piece from the front and two wedges on either side of the back.

A gusset was made up for the seat – including a zipped section across most of the back.

To ensure the top and bottom aligned with no skewing, the covers were placed on top of each other and marks made around the fabric edges.

These were then matched up as the gusset was pinned on and then sewn to the front and back covers.
For the back cushion, the template was again used but this time for the gusset pieces, two for the top and bottom with two shorter straight pieces for the sides, joins at the corners.

The zip for this cushion was put in the centre of the back. To avoid the zip showing at the edges, a piece of fabric was added to the ends of a shortened zip.

The zipper section was sewn onto two pieces of fabric making up the back which was then trimmed to the same size as the front.

Both pieces were marked to ensure good pattern alignment and gusset was attached as for the seat cushion.
