Edwardian Dining Chairs

Carver with original cover

This set of eight beautifully detailed Edwardian dining chairs with inlaid marquetry were to have new covers.

Old webbing on one chair
Bottom of one chair

While they all looked in good shape from the top, all of the chairs had sagging webbing with a variety of under covers.

The chairs were turned upside down, the under cloth removed and the old webbing taken off.

New webbing added to one chair

New webbing was added and the springs tied to webbing. This pushed up the stuffings, improving the feel and appearance of the seat.

Chair with seat restored and with barrier cloth

With the chair upright, the original stuffings were covered in barrier cloth to ensure conformance to current fire safety legislation.

Cover added - fabric position set for all chairs

The new cover fabric was added cutting in around the back. For the two carvers, the fabric was also cut in around the arm.

Double piping trim was added on all sides to complete the project.
