Four diverse dining chairs all badly needed their seats entirely replaced. The intent was four chairs that looked similar with the same fabric covers and were comfortable to use.
Although very different in frame construction, all of them basically had the same fixed seat upholstery – webbing, support cloth, hair, undercover and cover.
All four chairs had the cover fabric attached to the top of the seat. Three chairs also had the support sheet and webbing built on top of the frame, just one had webbing and support sheet attached under the frame.
All four chairs had the seats taken apart to leave just the frame.
After polishing, the seats were rebuilt in the same way as originally, starting with webbing. Support hessian was added – on top for three, underneath for the other. Hair was added and then a barrier cloth of wool safe to conform to current fire safety legislation before the final fabric was added.
All four were finished with double piping with a button at the back and returned to the owner.
