Oak Dining Chairs

The original covers

These rather nicely shaped Oak Dining Chairs needed new seats with new covers.

Braid edging remove
Layers of old stuffings folded back

The braid edge of the seat covers was pulled off.

The old cover was removed, followed by the cotton wadding and old felt layers.

The stripped fabric
Purple webbing - very unexpected

The support hessian was removed and then, the surprisingly purple, webbing was also removed.

Before and after images of the frame cleaning

With the frames stripped, the frames were rubbed down, removing small flecks of paint. The frames were then polished to finish the work.

New webbing added
Support hessian added

New webbing was added and covered in support hessian.

New cover fabric added
Barrier cloth added

Some new felt was added and covered, first in a barrier cloth and then with the new cover.

Piping and fabric covered buttons were made.

Piping and buttons
Finished chair with piping and button

The piping was glued on over the raw edges of the cover fabric.

The four finished chairs

A button was added at the back to cover the ends of the piping.

The four chairs were covered in matching pieces of fabric to complete the project.
