This delicate tub chair was in urgent need of new upholstery – complete replacement.
First the old cover fabric and braid was removed. Followed by an older cover, with a curious square hole in it, a cotton layer, felt, hessian support and webbing.
The seat frame was cleaned and polished.

To rebuild, new webbing was added, pulled taut to avoid sag.
Then a supportive layer of hessian, followed by new felt and new cotton wadding to complete the stuffings.
The cover fabric was then added, carefully protected to avoid marking the velvet fabric while it was being fixed in place.
Braid was then glued on, folded neatly at the two front corners. The braid covered the raw fabric edges and fixings.
Job done!
