This Two Seater Sofa was in need of a new cover. It also needed a new seat cushion and that had been made with the Winged Chair project.

That chair looked similar to this sofa but was actually quite different.

First step was to turn the chair on its back and remove the undercloth.

The chair was turned around and the nailing around the base was removed.

The outer back cover was then removed revealing a hessian support cloth.
That was removed, revealing webbing. However, an additional strip of cover fabric, which was removed, was attached along the base – it was only visible under the chair as it emerged below the nailing. Reason unclear.

The fabric on the outside arm and the piping edged arm fronts, were removed.

From the front, the inner arm covers were removed. The inner back fabric was removed next.

The seat fabric was divided in two. The front cover, attached along the middle of the seat, covered the front of the seat as well. And that was lifted away.

The new cover was added in the reverse order. So the first step was to add the new seat cover.

Again in two pieces, first attached along the centre, then the back.
The front piece was then pulled over and under the front.

The inner back was added and then the inner arms.

To finish the inside, the arm fronts with piping attached, were added.
The outer sides were then added.

The outer back was covered in support fabric. Then barrier cloth was added – as for all areas.

The final piece of cover fabric was added over the outer back. This was added as a single piece, without the secondary piece found when stripping the chair.

A new undercloth was added, covering the raw edges.

New brass nailing was added around the base on all sides, including around the tops of the legs.

One additional request was to make two arm covers – these will extend the life of the cover as they protect the place most likely to wear out first.
