This was an unusual project and is #16 in our featured Transformations. It used the original frame but the new blue velvet fabric was to be added so that as much as possible of the frame remained visible, limiting fixing options.

This chair originally had covers attached with nailing around the seat and back, covering most of the wood of the frame. These had all been removed and most of the stain on the frame carefully sanded off.

The covers were taken off, leaving the cushioning pads and felt.
The next step was to create two wrapped cushions to secure to the frame by wrapping the pads in polyester wadding.

These were placed onto the frame.
Decisions were made as to how to secure the fabric and how much wood could be left.

For the seat, the fabric was secured just below the edge of the frame on sides and front leaving wood exposed on three sides.
The back cushion was held in place over the side shaping with webbing.
Cover fabric was wrapped around to the back on both sides and top. It was cut in around the arms to leave them both exposed.

With both cushions in place, work was started on the back.

Single piping was stapled on around all sides of the back.
Fabric was attached at the top of the back over the piping and then polyester wadding, which was then pulled down and secured to sides and base.
Back tack strip was added along the top.

The fabric was pulled down, slipped stitched to both sides and stapled at the base.
The project was completed with double piping glued to the sides and front of the seat.
A good amount of the restored frame was left exposed and now with fixed upholstery.
Nice job!
