This Rocking Horse called Neddy, arrived with no rockers – but then he had far to travel – from the USA!
He will be welcomed to the growing herd of Rocking Horses. See Dobbin and Butler too.

All the key metal parts were provided but new tail, saddle and tack needed to be made.

The remaining tack was removed, along with his worn coat and ears. The eyes were retained to be reused.

An undercoat of woolsafe was added over the body and legs, and a second part over the head.
This helps mask the binding cord but also ensures compliance to British fire safety legislation. Hopefully that is good enough for the USA.

A new mane was made from macrame cord. The cord was cut into pieces, laid side by side on calico, shaped to provide the varying lengths of cord over a line of fabric glue down the centre.
Once dry, a line of stitching was run down the centre. The piece was folded in half and again stitched, this time close to the fold. The excess calico was trimmed off.

The mane was included in the head cover, when the new fabric was added. Brushing helped the finished appearance.

A tail was made from longer pieces of macramé cord. That was included within a fold at the back of the Rocking Horse. This could not be improved with brushing, so the macramé cord was divided.
The first area of tack, the nose band, was added.

New ears were made, shaped as the original with stiffening inside. They were held where the head band and headstall/bridle piece crossed.
A saddle was made – the top and under piece and the two side saddle pieces. Connected to that with rivets were the stirrups and girth.

Those were attached along with the martindale and crupper to complete the project.

Neddy was boxed up, ready to be shipped back to the US.
