Small Sofa

Small Sofa start.

A small sofa, probably Victorian, was to be recovered. The design and shaping of this sofa was brilliant. The frame was sound, the legs had a little damage, one castor was loose and the base sagged a lot.

Small Sofa Stripped.

All the old fabric was removed, with notes of fixings, sizes and shapes.

The loose castor was fixed in place.

New webbing was added over the old, pulling the base up by several inches.

Small Sofa arm.
Small Sofa back.

The arm rolls were covered first – over polyester wadding used under all fabric pieces. Over a metre of fabric was needed for this, with pleats over the button positions and the pattern bar positioned in between. A second piece was needed for the two inside buttons. The buttons were then added and the fabric fixed in place.

Fabric for both the top roll and the inner back and arms were fixed in place. Double piping was added along the divide beside the arm roll. Then the arm fronts, with piping edges were added, followed by the seat fabric.

The outer back and arms were covered, stitched on with piping around the top and under the arms. The piping of the arm fronts finishing the section to the base.

Small Sofa Complete.

Double piping was added around the front and sides and finally an undercloth was tacked on.
