There was no clear idea of the age of this chair but it was believed to be Victorian. The current owner told the story that her Grandfather had picked it up from a rag and bone man’s cart and remembers it from childhood.
The frame was really solid but the front rolled edge had collapsed, the fabric was worn with the braid trim falling off and the show wood dull and tired. Just the job!

The old cover was removed from the inner and outer back and the seat removed entirely.

The show wood was cleaned and polished and the seat rebuilt with the rolled edge following the serpentine front. The chair was then recovered and finished with a cord trim.
A real pleasure to return such an attractive chair back to full use.
A throw cushion using the same cord trim was wanted with this chair. See the Corded Cushion for more detail.
