Armchair

Armchair with original cover

This modern, well shaped chair with loose seat cushion needed a new cover.

Sides and back fabric removed

The polish work had also received a few knocks and those spots would need to be repaired.

With the seat cushion removed, the fabric to the sides and back was removed.

Original cover with cushion removed
Inner sides released on bottom and back edges
Inner sides freed at top and front, then removed

That gave access to the back and bottom fixings for the inner arms.

The inner fixings on the other two sides were removed and the fabric pulled away.

Back fabric removed
Last piece of fabric, the seat, removed

The fabric on the inner back was freed in a similar way.

Finally, the seat fabric was removed to make the chair ready to have it’s new cover.

FR polyester wadding added to the seat

The old fabric was FR treated but that was not the case for the new fabric.

Inner arms covered in new fabric

To comply with fire safety legislation, FR polyester wadding had to be added under each piece of fabric.

The seat was covered first, then the inner back.

Next the inner arms were covered.

The outside pieces were added, first to the back and  finally the sides.

Chair with piping added

Single piping was then glued around the frame edges – inside and outside.

Particular care was taken at the acute angle at the top of the outer side pieces.

Gusset with zip and piping ready to make the cushion cover

A zipped, piped, gusset was  prepared and a new cushion cover made.

The finished chair with cushion in place

This was dropped onto the chair to complete the project.
