Bentwood Chair

The original seat

A new cover was wanted for this Bentwood Chair.

The manufacturers stamp

The chair was manufactured by TON who are the Czech heir to the legacy of bentwood innovator Michael Thonet, who established a furniture factory in Bystřice pod Hostýnem in 1861.

The frame was in immaculate condition but the new cover was wanted to fit into the room decor.

The chair was turned over and the screws holding the seat to the chair were removed, releasing the seat.

The frame with seat and back removed

The seat acted as the brace for the back – which simply slid out.

The seat back cover fabric was replaced and pushed back onto the chair.

The seat cover fabric was also replaced.

The completed chair from the front

The seat was screwed onto the chair base, securing the back.

There was enough fabric remaining to make two cushion covers, piped and zipped, with new pads to complete the project.
