A Campaign Chair needed a new cover. This light, folding chair with well shaped arms had an old faded cover. The seat was reinforced with webbing which created an uneven seat and the wood had marks and some areas had faded.
The design would have been based on earlier chairs that used novel design methods to create portable items to provide some creature comforts to officers on the battle field.
The old fabric was removed. The dimensions of the fabric panels were noted, particularly the seat piece as this defines the height of the open seat.

The woodwork was given a good rub down, removing paint, then polished, bringing colour back to faded areas.

New, double sided panels were made up – each sewn together, inverted and top stitched along the sides.
The light canvas needed no additional reinforcement of webbing.

The panels were added to the frame, wrapped around the cross pieces before being secured.
While the seat panel would naturally be stretched with the chair in use, the back panel needed to be under tension when fitted.
Returned to the owner, ready for battle!
