Dining Chair Pads

The original pad cover.

Six dining chairs needed some work. The existing faux leather covers were to be removed, additional foam added to raise the seats a little and finished with a new, fabric cover.

The under cloth was removed and put aside – all six were reused.

The original cover and old, hardened foam were also removed.

The fabric layers ready to be pulled over and secured to the ply base.

Pieces of 2” luxury foam were prepared. They were made one inch larger on each side than the ply base. The back of the foam was cut back at 45degrees – so the other side of the foam was an inch smaller than the base.

The foam was placed on calico and the base ply on top.

Polyester wadding added over the foam.

The corners of the calico were pulled over the corners and held with staples. This also secured the foam. The thin edges of foam were stapled onto the edge of the ply base.

Cover added to the pad.

The calico, was then pulled firmly to the back and fixed into place on all sides of the base, pulling the foam evenly onto and around the edge.

Polyester wadding was then fixed over the calico, also under the base.

Now the cover fabric was fixed into place, also under the ply base. Care was taken to keep sideways symmetry – so a dark line of the pattern ran straight, front to back.

Finally, the original undercloth was fixed back in place, covering all the raw fabric edges.

The completed pads.

The task was then to repeat the same process with the other five pads. In particular placing the fabric to match each other.

The chair pads were returned and fixed back on the chairs.

Job Done! Recovering worn or grubby seat pads makes the seats look so much better. While these had their foam stuffings replaced, in many cases, they only need recovering albeit with some additional wadding to give a little extra lift.
