Quite often a new cover simply follows the lines of the original but not always!

This straightforward project to replace the cover of the headboard, provided the owner with the opportunity to modify the design.
The original cover was plain with a fold that started at either side, then petered out, failing to cross the entire width.

The back cloth was removed and then the cover fabric.

Turning the headboard over, the foam covering the headboard was examined. It was cut through to the back board and it was clear the fold was intended to follow this line.

The new cover fabric was loosely laid over the headboard – first just flat, then the fabric was pushed down into the fold – to see which option would be preferred. The choice was that the new, brightly patterned fabric would not benefit if the fold was retained – so it had to go!

The two sides of the cut were sprayed with glue and pulled together. To ensure the sides stayed together, the barrier cloth was stretched over the sealed cut and firmly glued in place.

The new cover fabric was then added over the top, with corner folds following the original style.

A new backcloth completed the project.

While most recovering projects will simply follow what was there originally, sometimes the opportunity arises to make some changes – time to consider your options!
