Lloyd Loom is paper wrapped wire that can be woven into many items – chairs, sofas, side tables, linen boxes and, I have now discovered, Ottomans.
Only the cover needed to be renewed.

The opportunity was taken to replace the stay for the lid which had broken.

The braid trim was carefully removed. It turned out to be made of Lloyd Loom – and was so robust that it could be reused.

The old cover was removed. Only some felt covered the wooden lid.

Some new felt was added and the whole covered in wool guard – ensuring compliance with current fire safety legislation.
The new cover was then carefully added – making sure to keep the fabric straight as well as taut.

The Ottoman lid was then finished with the original trim.
