The stool clearly needed a new cover! However, the faux suede fabric on the side and the nailing trim under the piping needed to be saved if possible as this matched other pieces of furniture.
The nailing was actually nail strips – with a real nail used every four places. These were carefully eased off, making notes on their location. Many of the nails had bent shafts – which will need straightening before being reused.

With the stool upside down, staples holding the undercloth were removed.

More staples holding the suede fabric were removed, after which the fabric could be pulled down revealing some scrim foam padding.

Staples holding the scrim foam were taken out and the foam strip removed – and saved for reuse.

The fixings for the piping edged faux suede were removed and the fabric pulled off.

The cover fabric was attached both along the same line as the faux suede and again close to the edge of the frame. The fixings were removed and fabric released.

With the stool upright the fabric was removed.

The existing polyester wadding had been damaged in areas where the cover fabric had holes. A new layer was added over the top.
Ready for the new fabric to be added.

The new fabric was added, following the original fixing lines.

With the stool upside down, the second line of fixings along the frame edge were added.

The original faux suede cover was pulled down and fixed in it’s original position.

The scrim foam was put back in position.

The suede was pulled back into position and secured under the frame.

The original nails were fortunately able to be straightened and then used to secure the nail strips around the edges of the stool.
