This tub chair is a modern piece and while it had a bland and somewhat worn cover, the intent was to give the chair a new, flamboyant cover.

With the chair upside down, the legs were unscrewed and the bottom cloth removed. Fixings for the cover were also removed.

With the chair upright, the seat cover was freed – it remained stitched to the rest of the cover.

The chair was turned upside down again and the cover eased down the sides. However, the base of the seat was smaller than the top and it could not be removed.

The solution was a zip at the back – it’s purpose now clear as the means to allow the otherwise loose cover to be fitted and secured to the frame base.

With the zip undone the cover was easily removed.

Time to add the new cover to the tub chair.
A decision was made to machine sew the three inside piece together, plus the arm fronts, and to be fitted first. Pieces were cut out to keep the passion flower image prominent.

The seat cover and seat front were then stapled into position on the seat and under the frame and hand sewn to the arm fronts.

Two pieces were machine sewn together and then hand sewn around the back and down the arm fronts with staples under the frame. The undercloth was stapled on and the legs screwed back on.

The cushion cover was made up – two identical sides with passion flower central to them.

The seat was returned to it’s owner.
