Office Stool

The original stool

This was an unusual stool. It was used as a seat but the labelling made it clear it was only to be used as a footstool! Fortunately the construction was very solid – just the faux leather top had worn out and a new cover was needed.

The underside of the stool

The stool was tipped over and the leg assembly  removed. Five clips anchored cords.

The stools ply base

The zip was opened and, after the cords holding down the centre seam of the seat were cut, the cushion pad and a plywood panel was removed.

The old cover

The old cover was measured and new cover pieces  prepared. The back was made from two pieces to include a zip.

New cover for underside
New cover made

The new cover was made  incorporating the original piping core – which was a clear plastic tube.

Positioning the ply on the new cover

The plywood panel was used to mark the positions of the fixing bolts for the base.

The new cover and ply base

The end holes were also marked. They were used to position two buttons.

Buttons added to stool top
Pad and ply base inserted in new cover

The buttons were added, placed evenly, on the top of the cushion.

The button backings

They were held underneath  using the original clips.

The base frame bolted to the stool

The base was then bolted back on to complete the project.
