Throw Cushions

Cushions to match seats.

Throw cushions are the ideal companion to gorgeous furniture, adding accents and colours to a room as well as a little extra comfort.

Throw cushions.

They are usually made with commercially available fabric – that same fabric can be used elsewhere in the room. The back can be the same fabric or use a complementary or contrasting fabric. See Making a Throw Cushion for details of their construction.

Large cushions from favourite fabric.

They can be small or large, square or oblong – even round or heart shaped.

Bedroom cushions to match curtains.

Throw cushions can be used to display tapestry or other needlework to great effect – far better than hidden away in a drawer. See Needlework Cushions for further details.

Favourite pieces of fabric or incorporating fabric intended for other purposes such as table placemats can all make great throw cushions.

Framing any Throw Cushion with piping or a cord as in the Corded Cushion example here, adds further detail – in colour or texture – and a zip allows easy cleaning in case of accidents – they do happen!

They might not use much fabric but cushions add a lot to the finished project.

The throw cushion pad is usually either feather or fibre and is typically an inch or two larger than the cover. This ensures a plump cushion – it has to be done!
