Corded Cushion

A new cushion cover was wanted for the Victorian Tubchair. This was to use the same cover fabric and also the cord used to trim the chair. The cushion was exceptional in needing a cord in place of the more usual piping.

To attach the cord to the fabric, a flange was needed. The cord was first attached by sewing down one side while it rested on a piece of fabric. The sewing just caught a few threads at the side. Once attached, the fabric was folded back on itself to form a flange and trimmed to half an inch wide.

The cord could now be attached in a similar way to piping. It was first pinned around the outside of one face of the cushion cover, easing around each corner.

The join was treated in the same way as the Victorian Tubchair outside back by wrapping a piece of fabric around the two tape wrapped ends.

The cord was now sewn to the cover fabric and the extra fabric covering the join trimmed off.

The second piece of cover fabric was attached for 2” at either side of the bottom – leaving a large gap where the zip was added.

The two faces were then pinned, good faces together, sewn and inverted for the pad to be inserted.

Finished! Ready to be placed on the restored Victorian Tubchair.
