Leather Office Chair

The original seat on arrival at the workshop.

This chair was all about ‘apparently’. This apparently ‘sturdily’ built office chair apparently had a ‘leather’ covered seat. The only thing certain though was the sagging seat needed replacement!

All the back slats were loose – they got fixed. Now the chair really was sturdy.

The seat was taken to pieces revealing what the ‘leather’ actually was.

The old seat completely removed.

The rebuilt seat was covered in real leather.

The seat ready for work.

This modern Laura Ashley Chair had a grubby cover and it needed to be replaced.

Chair stripped.

The old cover was removed and fortunately the frame lent itself to being recovered.

Corner Chair

The chair when it arrived.

Corner Chairs are rarely seen today, yet make perfect use of otherwise unused floor space.

This delightful example arrived with the original seat long gone.

So main challenge was working out what the it would have looked like!

With that solved, a new seat was created. Nice!

Oval Backed Chair

The chair on arrival.

This project was a real joy to work on. The beautifully detailed frame was in great shape – but what was left of the upholstery was destined for the bin!

An old sack had been used as a spring cover – but what the contents had been was a mystery.

Finished chair from the front.

Once every last thread had been removed, a new seat and oval back pad were made and covered.

Library Chair

The chair on arrival.

This Art Deco Library Chair is one of a pair – the other got it’s new cover over 4 years ago.

French Chairs

The chair with the collapsed rolled edge.

These two painted French Chairs needed some work as the seats were in a parlous condition!

Some of their history was uncovered with names – presumably written by children many years ago – found under the frame.

The two finished chairs.

End result was the chairs both received two new seats, covered in a delightful fabric.

Edwardian Dining Chairs

Carver with original cover

This set of eight beautifully detailed Edwardian dining chairs with inlaid marquetry were to have new covers.

The seats looked good from above but it was a different story underneath and resetting the springing was necessary.

Cover added - fabric position set for all chairs

And as a set, the fabric needed to be placed so that all the chairs matched.

Bar Stools

The seat with original cover

These four modern Bar Stools needed new covers. The way the original cover had been made and attached could not be copied – so a different method was used for adding the new cover.

Parker Knoll

The chair with original cover

This Parker Knoll, model #731, was in need of a new vibrant cover.

The seat pad was replaced and the stuffings at the top of the back were reshaped but otherwise the chair was in good condition.

Winged Chair

The original chair.

This attractively shaped Winged Chair was definitely in need of a new cover. The thin and not very well shaped stuffings needed help!

The stripped arms and back.

To sort out the stuffings, the chair was stripped of everything except the seat.

With minor damage to the polish work repaired, the chair was remade and a new cover added.
